Watching the Gulf

Looks like the upper level pattern will finally transition, beginning with the upper level ridge, shifting out west, allowing the westerlies to move farther south. We stay well south of the primary storm track, but at least we’re in a position to catch small doses of cooler air, which will allow temperatures to eventually drop back in the mid/low [...]

Heavy Rain Stays South

Cloud coverage increasing today, from the south in response to the surface low, from what was Tropical Depression 5; with convection decreasing as the system loses its upper level support, it’s technically no longer a disturbance or depression… The deeper moisture stays in south Mississippi today, with the heavier rain falling south of Hwy 84; [...]

Hot Today, then slightly Cooler

Tropical Depression Five, suffering the same fate as Tropical Storm Colin, and in a very similar meteorological set-up; the tracks were similar, and both weakened at nearly the same location. Does our hot weather have any relation to the weakening of these tropical systems?? Actually…Yes, but indirectly. The upper level winds are converging, off to the Northeast of [...]

Steamy!!

The summer heat continues with little relief in sight; I know it sounds like a broken rocord by now. Up to 100 this afternoon, with a few widely scattered showers and storms; afternoon heat index near 112… The Gulf of Mexico is unsettled, and there is a possibility that a disturbance could develop later in the week, hopefully [...]

Still Hot!!

The mid 90s cool down is over… Right back into the upper 90s to near 100 through the end of this week. Most spots warm to the 96 to 98 degree range this afternoon, then 100 on Tuesday and Wednesday, as the 594 mb “heat bubble” returns. Only scattered afternoon storms expected over the next several days… [...]

Not as Hot!!

Some temporary relief from the heat, over the next few days! A weak front slipped in here yesterday, kicking off a good round of storms. The front has stalled, with more showers and storms firing up today, once temperatures and surface based instability increase. Otherwise, more clouds than sun, which will hold temperatures down a [...]

Turning **Slightly** Cooler

Right off the bat, I emphasize the word “Slightly”! We’re only talking about temperatures backing off a few degrees, over the next several days, but upper 90s sure sounds better than low 100s! Thunderstorms increasing in coverage today, and especially tomorrow through Saturday as a surface front approaches. Scattered showers and storms kick off this afternoon, continuing tonight as it slips in from [...]

Another Steamy Day!

The heat backs down a bit, beginning tomorrow, but we have another day of potential record-breaking heat, today. Afternoon temperatures reach the 101 to 103 degree range, with a heat index near 115. A few showers and storms are possible later today, along the periphery of the 594 mb ridge, as it moves to our [...]

Smokin Hot!!

The good news- our heat will peak today, then slowly edge back down through the end of the week. The bad news- we stay above normal for at least the next 7 days…  Greenville and Greenwood, both broke records again yesterday; Greenville hit 104, breaking the previous record of 103; Greenwood hit 103, breaking the previous record [...]

The Heat Continues!!

The dog days of summer are living up to their name; more like the doggone hot days of summer!! We made it to the 100 to 103 degree range yesterday, and there’s no reason why that won’t happen again today. In fact, it may be Thursday before we stay below 100. Keep in mind, with [...]
